A guz is an obsolete unit of length used in parts of Asia. It is a regionally variable measurement, corresponding culturally to the yard. Values of the guz range from:

India

In India, the value varied (also called a gudge)

  • 36 inches (914.4 mm) in Bengal
  • 27 inches (685.8 mm) in Mumbai (formerly Bombay)
  • 33 inches (838.2 mm) in Chennai (formerly Madras)
  • 33 inches (838.2 mm) for the Government Survey Guz

After metrication in the mid-20th century, the unit became obsolete.

Nepal

Persia

In Persia (now Iran), a guz was defined as 2 cubits (914.4 mm). It was also known as the gueza or zer.

  • 41 inches (1.0414 m) was the common guz
  • the government standard guz was 36.5 inches (0.9271 m)
  • the Retail trade Standard was 25 inches (0.635 m)

Arabia

  • In Arabia it varied between 27 and 37 inches (685 to 940 mm)
